It will prevent and treat mild to moderately severe dehydration. It should be provided as sips, spoonfuls or with a syringe in small amounts with an aim of providing 3-4 ounces every hour. Zyrtec liquid (Cetirizine) Zyrtec or Cetirizine is an antihistamine that is approved for children above the age of 6 months. The dose for an infant is 2.5 ml once a day, above the age of 2 years can take 3.75 to 5 ml once a day. It should not be given with over-the-counter cough and cold medications or other antihistamines such as Benadryl or Claritin. Claritin liquid (Loratidine) Claritine or Loratidine is an antihistamine that is approved for children at the age of 1 year. The liquid form should not be used for infants below the age of 1 year. The dose from 1 year to 2 years is 2.5 ml once a day, older children beyond the age of 2 can have 1 teaspoon (5 mg) or 1 chewable tablet of 5 mg.
